Hello from Surf City!
Fishing report from NC Waterman

Oregon Inlet Fishing Center
July 11 REPORT

Offshore a lot of dolphin in most of today's catches.
Many included several yellow fin tunas and one boat
had a 3 big eyes. They weighed 74, 78 and 100 pounds
each. They also had a wahoo and a gaffer dolphin. I had a
problem with my camera. The lense protector only
opened part way on most of the pictures I took. The
typical large number of dolphins are missing. All in all it
was a good day, warm and breezy. The prospect for
tommorrow is less breezt.

Inshore King mackerel morning and afternoon. Open
boats- different boats did diferent things. One went after
sharks and blue fish, another flounders and another
blue fish.

Surf fishing reports for yesterday and today include
plenty of sea mullet and pompano, bluefish, a couple of
flounder, a few puppy drum, and several black drum.
We have thunderstorms moving through this morning and
it has slowed downed the fishermen getting out but we
really needed the rain if nothing else to pack the
beach back down. South point is currently closed today as
an American Oystercatcher hatched yesterday and has
stayed on the oceanside. The NPS is suppose to be sending
down a team to provide a bypass road around the bird
to be able to allow access to the point so check with
the Park service or here for updates on the opening.
Steve Moff of Williamsport, PA had a nice puppy drum
caught with mullet on Sunday afternoon and was nice
enough to come by for a photo. Gary and Matt Armour of
Elkton, MD caught Spanish mackerel at the point on glass
minnows before the closure yesterday. Ashley Wiley of
Earleville, MD had a nice pompano yesterday. Jason
Beck was nice enough to share his photo from the "Miss
Teresa" of Jim Bryant, Kandace and Jeff Norman with
some of their catch of spanish and bluefish.
Have fun fishing!

Offshore: The offshore fishing continues to be good.
There are still good numbers of dolphin everywhere you
go offshore. There were more wahoo caught this past
week than the week before. From inshore of the 14 Bouy
to offshore of the Big Rock the dolphin fishing is
good, as well as some wahoo and sailfish. Sailfish and
white marlin sre still being caught in good numbers with
the occasonial blue marlin mixed in.

Inshore: The fishing inshore this past week had slowed
up some over last week. there are still king mackerel
being caught around the Barge Wreck and the Sea Bouy
as well as the Beaufort Inlet, but not in the numbers
that there were last week. There are still dolphin
being caught around the Sea Bouy but their numbers have
dropped some as well. There are kings and dolphin
around the Northwest Places, Big Ten Little Ten area as
well as around the 13 and Hutton area. The inshore shark
fishing is still very good both just off the beaches
around the trawlers and back inside Shackleford Banks
and around Cape Lookout shoals.

Inside: The drum fishing inside the marshes has slowed
up some due to dirty water. We managed to catch a few
drum on fly and conventional spin the past Friday.
The speckled trout fishing has been pretty gppd in the
marsh as well. Cleaner water will help tremendously.
Just as soon as it clears up some boht the drum and
speckled trout will really get good.

Piers: The piers are catching Spanish mackerel,
flounder, sea mullet blues and black drum.

Charters: We are now booking for red drum, speckled
trout, king mackerel, sharks and dolphin
