Hello from beautiful Topsail Island! It's a wonderful day at the beach. Of course I guess they all are wonderful, right? We feel so blessed to live on Topsail Island.
Dad, my nephew Dan, and myself went fishing at Surf City Pier Tuesday morning. Weather was great, wind was light, Topsail Island water temp was 67* and very clear, and the blues and spanish made several appearances throughout the morning. The glass minnows were everywhere. School after school passed by the Surf City Pier. Gotcha plugs were the bait of the choice Tuesday morning. The sheepshead were feeding off every pier piling. The water was so clear they were plainly visible to us but they were not biting real well. Could it have been the water clarity spooked them to the baits? Don't really know. I did see one nice sheepshead landed using a sand flea. The only virginia mullets I saw were small. There were no king strikes, at least while we were there, but the king anglers were catching plenty of blues for bait. Dad and Dan fished Surf City Pier again last night, but the fish had moved on. Surf fishing seemed a bit slow, I saw only a couple small ones while walking the beach Tuesday afternoon. Dan and Laiken failed to catch anything on an afternoon outing on the surf.
We are hopeful that the fish will show up again today. We are a bit late getting to the pier, maybe the blues and spanish will still be there............
Till next time....
Tight lines!
Johnny
