Redfish----Grouper-----Black Drum are Biting
Redfishing was super hot last week. We pulled in 33 Redfish last Thursday. Unfortunately it cooled down yesterday though. We only had a couple. The full moon and that hard rain is what I’m blaming. It should pick back up at the end of this week though. I’ve had several people come into shop this week and last that have caught many of the redfish around docks. They were using live mullet on a heavier duty Carolina rigs. We’ve been catching our fish on live bait also, but we’ve been using float rigs primarily. We have also been using D.O.A. C.A.L. Series paddle tails. They mimic a mullet very well, plus they’re tough enough where the tails don’t get bit off by the pinfish every other cast. That’s Pat Lewis with a 30” Redfish caught on live mullet with a float rig. Her husband (Ed Lewis) is in the back ground fighting a 3lb Trout. read more
Flounder----Spanish----
Trout are still here. We have caught our share these past couple of weeks. I’ve caught them on small mullet, live shrimp, topwaters, MirrOlures, X-Raps, and some Yozuri Fingerlings. Early mornings I’ve started out with topwaters, then switched to something sub-surface. When the sun gets really bright then we’ve fished the live bait. We’ve been catching 12”trout to 24”inchers lately. Incoming or high falling tides are always good tides when trying to target them. The Elizabeth River and Battery Island are really good places right now with the right wind. That’s Kevin Smith with a 20” Trout caught on a Super Spook Jr. read more

Pre Labor Day Action
Flounder, Spanish, Blues, Red Drum, Speckled Trout, King Mackerel, Sharks, and a decent showing of blow toads for you bottom fishermen. That about sums it up for the last few days.
The inlets have been feeding frenzies for the blues, spanish, and sharks lately. Lots of bait has made easy pickings for 'toothy critters'. Trolling spoons and casting jigs for the blues and spanish and meat on the bottom for the sharks.
The flounder continue to bite well around any deep structure on slack tides. Larger 5'-7' mullet minnows are working the best. Even medium size menhaden are effective. Too small of a bait leads to lots of lizard fish, short bass, toads, and ribbonfish.
