Fall fishing is in full swing and the big reds are here. Though we have had several weeks of bad weather and I had not been able to get out much, this week was much different.
This past weekend, I fished the Cape Fear Inshore Classic with my sweetie Karen and friend Brett. Fishing started out with a bang on Saturday with a nice speckled trout eating my zara spook topwater first thing. Though this fish didn't place in the tournament, it was a nice fish just the same. Most of the rest of the day was frustrating. It wasn't because the fish weren't biting, but that they we all too Big!!!
The slot limit for Redfish in this state (as most others) is 18-27". Well, this past weekend, the magic number seemed to be 27.5" and up. In two days of fishing, we released about 8 over slot fish, including one 30-inch plus fish. At one point, we had a school of 50-100 reds come up right beside the boat. We hooked 5 and landed 3 of them, all 28-inch plus fish.
We ended the day Saturday holding second place in the lady angler division of the tournament, but lost out on placing Sunday by 0.05lbs. The weather was great, the fishing is great and a good time was had by all.
It's time to go fishing. Call and book your trip today. Here are the openings that I have thru October.
This Sunday Sept. 30. Sunday Oct. 7th, 21st and 28th.
November is still pretty wide open.
