Tropical Storm? Not Here!

Hello from Surf City!
I don't know where the weather channel was getting their information, but the storm they have been talking about wasn't around here. It missed us. The weather channel was at North Topsail Beach and was reduced to showing film of the beach houses that were damaged by hurricane Ophelia two years ago. The beach front houses have since been condemned. Anyway, we are thankful that the storm has missed us. Ok, now to my fishing report. I made a short visit to Surf City Pier and saw some nice black drum, probably about three or four pounds each, a few mullets, and yes, a few nice spots. The yellow butterflies are everywhere, and the spots are starting to show up. The few anglers that were fishing, were excited about catching a few spots. They are not showing up two at a time yet, but there are some being caught. Big sharks are being caught from the piers and in the surf. A friend said a six footer bumped his leg as he was wading in knee deep water casting a jig for flounder. Needless to say, he fished from the shore the rest of his trip. Inside fishing has been good with keeper flounder and speckled trout being caught near the inlets. Red drum are holding around grass lines and the flats off the ICW. Lady fish are biting near the turning bridge. Folks are saying they haven't seen this many ladyfish in a long time. I haven't heard of sheepshead being caught around the turning bridge. Maybe it's too early. I really don't know much about sheepshead. If anyone has any info about when and where, let us know. OK, so fishing is picking up as the water and the weather gets cooler. Come on down and wet a line. I don't think you will get "blown away" unless it's by the fish your are going to catch. See ya on the beach!

Till next time....
Tight lines!
Johnny
